Riikkinen is a children's book series illustrated by me, written by Jukka Laajarinne and published by Gaudeamus in Finland since 2020. The books are created together with Univeristy of Helsinki Science Education department.
The series was awarded a Finnish Tieto-Lauri prize in 2025. The prize is awarded every three years in recognition of the author of a Finnish-language children's or young science based book. The prize is funded and distributed by Lauri Jäntin säätiö.
The stories are about this small insect colony and their adventures. Riikkinen, smallest of them all, explores the world with her friends and learns about biodiversity, critical thinking, energy, chemistry etc.
